PATH has pioneered documentation of the information that most serious behavioral disorders can be correlated with brain electrical activity imbalances.  We use Harvard Medical School's device, the Brain Electrical Activity Map (BEAM), to discover, diagnose, and study electrical imbalances associated with anxiety, depression, insomnia, and other types of brain disorders ranging from schizophrenia to Alzheimer's disease.  These conditions are often easily treatable with anticonvulsants (medicines which stabilize brain activity).  We should not assume that just because a person has a brain arrhythmia, or a disorder often called cerebral dysrhythmia, that he or she is having psychological problems, any more than we assume that someone who has a heart arrhythmia is a heartless individual.
Physical disorders of the brain can occur independently or may exist in a mutual dependence with psychological factors.  We have found, however, that the so?called anticonvulsants (Dilantin [phenytoin], Tegretol, Klonopin, phenobarbital, Mysoline, Diamox, and Felbamate, among others) have had remarkable success in treating brain disorders of all types and are very safe medications when given with nutrients.  Please  read  and enjoy the two books on Dilantin, keeping in mind that everything said about Dilantin, to a great degree, can apply to the rest of these anticonvulsants.

It is important to know that the brain rhythm approach to brain disorders is also successful using non?drug approaches.  For example, Cranial Electrical Stimulation (CES), achieved with a small electrical device, can do what Dilantin does.  Additional non?drug approaches are brain exercises, such as biofeedback, which often help regulate brain rhythm, and nutrients that have mild brain-regulating properties, such as GABA, inositol, melatonin, magnesium, B-6, and B-complex.  In some cases, the miracle of Dilantin, in our understanding of it, can be duplicated with CES, biofeedback, and nutrients.

It should be noted, however, that some people respond to Dilantin while others respond to different medications; therefore, it is a very complex set of judgments that goes into choosing which medicine is best for you.  If you are not on Dilantin, please keep in mind that it is because it was felt that there are other substances more appropriate for you that can help regulate your brain rhythm.
